Precast Engineering & Detailing (DFMA)

KDA advances the precast/ prestressed concrete industry through precision engineering, innovative detailing, and the practical application of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles. Our DFMA approach integrates digital tools, streamlines fabrication, reduces manufacturing time and cost, and delivers high-quality results.

By minimizing variability and integrating advanced digital tools, we streamline fabrication, reduce complexity, and deliver efficient, high-quality results.

KDA's Expertise

Precast Project Types
Google_data_center_edited_edited.jpg

KDA has extensive experience designing and detailing modular precast concrete data center structures that satisfies the accelerated construction timelines required for these specialized projects.  We understand the importance of designing for structural integrity and high reliability to support continuous operation in service.  Precast concrete exterior wall panels provide thermal management and ensure secure perimeters are provided to protect infrastructure and data integrity.  Precast concrete floor and roof systems have the capacity to support the heavy equipment loads and provide vibration control.

For data centers, MEP systems drive much of the structural complexity and mission-critical integration, and our extensive BIM coordination capabilities is particularly well suited for these projects.  We are very experienced and capable of managing aggressive schedules to allow early procurement of materials and minimize redesign risks despite late tenant or equipment changes that can occur on data center projects.

Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA)

Planning

We collaborate with precast concrete manufacturers and modular builders early in the design phase to ensure the construction concept aligns with established manufacturing systems. Our early integration reduces costs and streamlines project delivery.

Materials

By working with the manufacturer’s existing supply chain, we minimize risk, maintain cost and align schedule. Through BIM/VDC processes, we provide clear visibility into material requirements earlier than traditional design methods, improving material management logistics and procurement efficiency.

Process

Integrating our design with the manufacturing process refines workflows and improves constructability. Evaluating sub-assembly fabrication components and production sequences ensures that each element is optimized for fabrication, transport, and installation.

Standards

Applying our consistent design standards from project to project reduces cost, improves manufacturing efficiency, and shortens schedules. Our proven engineering practices deliver measurable value with optimized and cost efficient structures.

Ultra High-Performance Concrete
(UHPC) Design

Our experience with Ultra-High-Performance Concrete (UHPC) supports structural and architectural applications, where strength, precision, and durability are paramount. This advanced material enables slender, high-strength components with long service life and minimal maintenance. Through careful detailing and material optimization, UHPC is used to create systems with complex geometries that achieve exceptional long-term performance and visual quality.
